Mechanics

  • Co-op with friends

Co-op multiplayer in ANANTA is for playing with friends rather than an MMO-style crowd, producer Ash Qi says: you explore together and can take on harder missions as a group. Details are still to come.

  • The Captain takes a selfie under an overpass covered in graffiti while a man in sunglasses poses behind him

    Fame and influence

Fame and influence drive ANANTA’s premise: “Go Viral. Save the World.” The Captain grows a following through missions, crises and small moments like selfies with citizens, and fame unlocks resources and influencer perks.

  • ANANTA promotional art: a red car crashes through a street pileup while characters leap past it, with skyscrapers and a pagoda behind

    Martial arts combat

Combat in ANANTA draws on martial arts and action films: dodges, blocks and counters, enemy weapons you can grab, and street props like golf clubs and trash bins. Every character can also pull objects with telekinesis.

  • Outfits and customization

Outfits and customization cover dressing characters, painting cars and furnishing homes. NetEase plans to sell cosmetics such as limited event outfits, and the pre-registration rewards already include clothing dye and a car paint set.

  • Parkour and climbing

Parkour and wall climbing, along with running, take characters onto rooftops and the mid-levels of buildings. NetEase calls its movement design the ultra-free 3C system: character, camera and control.

  • Seymour sits in a gaming chair in a dark room full of green-lit monitors, with a calico cat lying on the desk

    Phone and social media

The phone is the Captain’s main tool: selfies, posts and a social feed that reacts to what you do. You can also peek at strangers’ phones and read their messages.

  • Relationships with residents

Relationships with residents let you recruit them, which unlocks items, badges and combat abilities. More than 100 people in the city have their own stories and quests.

  • Swinging and grappling

Swinging is ANANTA’s signature way to move: grappling and swinging between skyscrapers, much like Marvel’s Spider-Man. It is part of a traversal system that needs no stamina.

  • ANANTA key art: the Captain, Taffy, Shi Ye and other characters on a wooden terrace above a city with skyscrapers, a lake and a pagoda

    Switching characters

Switching characters lets you jump between recruited ACD agents, each with a separate story, job and way of exploring and fighting. Producer Ash Qi says a character you leave keeps living their own life.

  • Shi Ye riding a red-and-white motorbike through the air next to the Captain, with boxes and a cat flying around them

    Vehicles and transport

Transport in ANANTA covers cars, motorcycles, helicopters, yachts, the subway and hang gliders on NetEase’s list, and press previews add skateboards and flying cars. Buses and taxis carry you around the city too.
